Hallooooo!

Gjett hva?

Hallooooo!

Guess what? We saved a turtle this week! We heard something in a bush we passed. We stopped to see what it was. There was a big turtle that got stuck. It had asphalt all over. He could not move, and it looked as if he had been stuck for a while. He was sore everywhere. So I picked him up and we took it to the mission office where we showed it to President Heder. He just said "oh poor thing" and immediately wanted to help. So all three of us were helping and trying to get the asphalt off. Incredibly difficult. It was under the shell, but on the legs, which is the most important thing, it was not easy to get rid of the asphalt. It took an hour to get rid of most of the stuff. The rest was impossible to get rid of without using harmful chemicals. But it got so much better. It could move and walk around again, and we left Leonardo, of course, I named it after Ninja Turtles, walking in the garden around the church. It is fenced, so he does not get out, but the garden is big and nice.

We moved this week. We stayed in an apartment just for a week. It was stressful. I came from Cyprus with everything I owe and stayed in an apartment for one week. Just when I had all things in place, it was out again. Now I have almost got things in place again. The apartment is nice. Something is very old and something is brand new. So that's a good mix. It is very close to the church and mission office which is very convenient for us. Only a 5-6 minutes walk.

Our friend Theodore is just so ready. We have taught him all the basics he needs before baptism and he is completely geared to be baptized. He almost cannot wait. The good thing is that all the members loves him. They uses time with him, they come to the lessons with him, open up their homes, they even have extra contact with him that we do not organize. He has just slipped right into the network and has already found good friends. He is safe.

We bought a melon since we were hungry, it was so hot and the melons here are amazing. We found that it was easiest to just divide it in two and take each half and eat it with a spoon. It was a lot of trips to the loo to say it frank :)

We were having dinner with President Heder, his family and with Allens, the office workers here. They just took us to a great restaurant. Very spontaneous, which was super since we had no special food at home.

On Sunday we had 130 BYU students who came and participate in the sacrament meeting. So we had to organize the whole thing. It was not easy when we do not quite have the facilities and not the opportunity to house that many at once. But it went well. So we had 3 sacrament meetings. One in Greek, one for students, and one for English international.

President Heder is just the best. I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again. He really makes me laugh all the time. Everything he says is amazing. Both hysterical and at times very significant for me.

Have one great week folks!

    Halloen!

I will try, Jrgen! I will read the Book of Mormon! I promise!

Hipp Hipp!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hia!

There will be a lot to write about this week as there was no time to write last week. For those who do not know, I'm now in Athens in Greece as Assistant to President Heder with Elder Scharff! It was a big surprise given that I only had 12 weeks left of my mission when I got the call. It's a little different, but I think the biggest advantage is that we get so much time together with President Heder. We see him almost every day. That is so great. He's the best.
I will try to write about what happened this week.

I had my last lesson with Thomas and Lisbeth from Norway before I left Cyprus on Saturday. Amazing people, I miss them already. We taught about hope that is so badly needed in this world. In the end, I wanted to explain to them how I feel about the Book of Mormon and how it brings hope to our lives. It has been a little difficult to teach them because of our good relationship. I therefore explained how it is to be a missionary. The fact that we do not give up on every day, but the only thing that frustrates me is when people are not even willing to try. I know how much joy, understanding and light comes from studying in the scriptures, especially in the Book of Mormon, and that those we speak to truly need these blessings. This is what people are looking for, but then they are so often unwilling to even try once. They have nothing to lose but so much to win! I continued to talk about the principle of trying. I felt the Holy Ghost so strong and just hoped that they felt something of the same. Suddenly, Thomas stopped me breaking out. I will try, Jrgen! I will read the Book of Mormon! I promise! It was completely indescribable. I hope I'll see them again.

I had a talk at the sacrament meeting last Sunday in Larnaca. I said goodbye to them all, some with wet eyes. Very special to take goodbye after I've been there for over 7 months. Very mixed feelings. It's always sad to take goodbye with friends, but I also looked forward to meet old and new friends in Athens.

Monday morning I traveled to Athens. That same evening we had a lesson with Θοδωρής (Theodore). He contacted the missionaries very recently because he wanted to learn more about the Mormons. He studied many different churches and wants to become a Mormon. He is 24 years old, can speak Greek, English, German, Italian and Russian, he has studied law and has steady work and everything. You cannot find a better guy! He has baptism date on June 10th. He just accepted all new information and he studies himself. What a guy.

The Tuesday was mostly used together with President Heder. We planned some of the meetings we have in future. A leadership meeting that we have on Friday, MLC for next week and some changes in the mission.

Until Wednesday, Elder Scheltinga was still with us, so he could give me some extra training like an AP. Early in the morning, Allens, missionary couple, came to pick him up and drive him to the airport. We just walked out of the apartment and down the stairs to follow him out. But .. We forgot the keys in the door. So Allen took us to church to pick up the extra keys, but he did not have enough time to drive us back. So he dropped us off on the road and we had to walk, in our pajamas, slippers and in the rain. Hahha When we finally got to our apartment we found out that the keys did not work since the original blocked from the inside side. One of our neighbors came out and tried to help us ring around for a locksmith. Another neighbor woke up and she said our terraces were not too far away from hers. So I took off the slippers and jumped over and unlocked from the inside. I would say it was a good way to celebrate 17th of May!

Thursday we did more normal missionary work. We visited Anest, a recently baptized member and studied a little with him. Afterwards we traveled to the Kalle family. I say traveled since they live a good distance away from the metro on one of the highest heights in Athens. We shared a spiritual thought with them and then they invited us to dinner. Something I really hoped for. Since we just moved in and have little money for this month we have not eaten so much last couple of days. And the Kalle family had made a lot of food for us. I ate therefore for a while to keep full for a while. Toward the end of the dinner, one of them said, "wait, is not it strike on the metro from 8 tonight?" We just had to thank for the food and run out. You can picture it. Two guys just overpowered by heavy pasta and chicken, in shirt, tie and dress pants, running down a big height. It is Monday now and I still have sore muscles from the navel and down.

On Friday we had lots of meetings. Leadership meeting we held for the new leaders in the mission. Meeting with President Heder. And a skype meeting with some sister missionaries from another mission to discuss media usage, similar to sharing experiences and ideas about future use. We also had another lesson with Theodore, who is so eager to learn more about what we believe in.

That was it ... First week at the office. Then we'll see what next week will bring. So much happening every day, it is almost like a fairytale :)

    See you guys later

Heyyy dpen ble holdt tirsdag den 25. Helt fantastisk.

    ----------------------------------

Heyyy! The baptism was held on Tuesday the 25th. Absolutely amazing. Wish we had baptism every day, but we'll work a bit harder before we get that!

We had a district meeting here in Larnaca with the elders from Nicosia who came down, and Panayiotis was also attending a meeting for the first time. He thought it was a little military, but all in a good way haha. Perfect.
After the meeting, we began the baptism program of Nicola. We started at the church building here in Larnaca and then we drove down to a beach and performed the baptism. There was some waves, but it went well. She was incredibly nervous before we went into the water, and afterwards she was so relieved and happy. On Sunday she received the gift of the Holy Ghost by Elder Menis! She said it was also a very big thing for her.

(splits with my former companion. Always a blast!)

We had a zone conference yesterday with Elder Dini Ciacci present. Absolutely amazing man. We had a role playing with him and his wife, a teaching practice. It's always a bit scary with someone from his position haha, but it went very well. He helped us teach even better.

By the end of the conference, I suddenly got a migraine attack, which I have not had for a while. I got something painkillers, but it was a bit late. On our way home we waited on the bus to Larnaca. I sat down and was quite logged off. A random guy came up to my companion and asked if I had been to the guaba club since I looked completely drunk. So I really felt like a representative of the Lord!.... Haha.. If nothing else, it is also a way to get in touch with people.

Here is a picture of service that we do every week. Where we help to extract vegetables to people who receive state aid and need food

A little while ago, we woke up in the middle of the night because the fire alarm went off. There was no fire so we turned it off, but only a few minutes later it went off again. We tried to take out the alarm, but nothing worked. Finally I filled up a large bowl of water and then I drowned the whole alarm. Hahha, the light flashed, and then slower and slower. It took 10 minutes under water before the alarm finally drowned.

The sunflower has really grown a lot, and we now have tomatoes! I have to say that I do not quite understand the planet. Put some seeds in a bucket of soil on the terrace and give them some water occasionally. And ta-da, you suddenly have nice red tomatoes? From soil and water? I have had both chemistry and biology, but I cannot say I completely understand the miracle here. I can try to squeeze soil down my companion and water him occasionally, but I do not think the result will be tomatoes to say it that way. Plants marvelous, but it's by all means companions too, so maybe it will work?
