Her er bilde.

------------------

This week we have really eaten a lot due to thanksgiving. So all is well in Zion.

Wow! I wrote a bit about Imed last week. An investigator from Egypt that takes in everything like a sponge. He is just so prepared, amazing. Last week he announced that he would stop smoking (which is not a small thing just that). This week we therefore taught him about the word of wisdom. When he heard that we do not drink tea or coffee, he said. "What? No tea or coffee?" I was ready to explain a bit why we have the work of wisdom and stuff around this, but he continued. "It's wonderful. I just stopped do drink tea and coffee for 1 month ago. I had become so dependent, but I stopped and I felt so much better. It was hard in the beginning, but now I am free." He is absolutely increasable. On Sunday he came up to us with a smile and explained how much he has cut down on smoking and that he feels so happy. He had a little headache, but he said he feels such a joy that he has not felt in a long time. What a man.

This week I had exchange with Elder Fagg, which is just an adventure in itself. Hahha, Fagg is a legend. We were out working in a brand-new area that did not exist on our map. Then we got lost and ended up in an area with only huge villas. So big that it could be considered to be called castles. One of the houses seemed to have a roller coaster on the roof, but it was something else. We contacted them and had a very good conversation with them. One guy that we spoke with said after I introduced myself, "Ah, you have a Norwegian name?" I have no idea how he knew, since he only saw my name written in Greek, which is not the easiest thing in the world to read.

Unfortunately Elder Fagg moved to Athens today. He will be the new assistant to President Heder. Not difficult to understand at all. He is a good guy and a very good missionary, but we would have like to have him in Larnaca a little longer. The positive is that the Scotsman Elder Scharff will take his position, so that is good at least.

Wow! While I sat here writing the blog, I got a call from our investigator from Bergen. She was invited home to a Norwegian family in the evening and she asked if it was okay if she invited the missionaries, since there was a guy from Norway that needed to exercise his Norwegian's. The family have been in contact with missionaries before, so they are well aware of those Mormons. Haha so that will be fun! Have no idea what we can expect. We'll see!

All missionaries in Cyprus came together on Tuesday and we had a great thanksgiving meal.
Here is a picture.

    English after norwegian;

    Halloisen mine Jule Enhjrninger!

Pynt fint!

    -------------------------------------

    Hello my fellow Christmas Unicorns!

Guess what we did today? We together with the Cranney and zone leaders did go down to see the flamingos. Every year flamingos flying to Africa from the East and make a little pit stop in Larnaca a few weeks, if I understood it correctly. It was quite special for a Norwegian to see a whole herd of wild flamingos.

The last two Sundays, I have been asked if I could play the organ at sacrament meeting. Quite easy since the songs are already recorded in the piano, so I just have to pluck the beat and tempo as playing the piano by itself. But listen? !! this Sunday, I played a little manually! " Nearer my God to the." Really fun! There is a Keyboard in one of the other apartments that they do not use, that I can take over so that I can practice a bit. ^^

This week has been so good. Packed with lessons. So many different experiences. Miracles and new people we have taught.

We had a lesson with the girl from Bergen! Not that it was something new, but something very unexpected happened! She has never accepted to take the Book of Mormon before, since she did not want to lose focus on the Old Testament, but I felt anyway that we had to try once again. We met as usual, talked about who we are, about Israel, the gathering of the tribes of Israel, Moses, etc. Then we read Alma 32 together, which Alma compares the word (the Scriptures) with a seed and we read it in Norwegian. Just to read the writings of Norwegian for the first time in over a year was pretty special. She liked it, although a little skeptical of unknown writings and prophets. She had to agree with lots of what we read from Alma 32 and that there were lots of great insights and learning's.
Afterwards she talked about how the Bible comes from the Jews and she explained a little about the traditions, including a bit about Christmas. I concluded by saying that we have to go now, but we would wish she could read a chapter to the next time which says a lot about how the Bible comes from the Jews. She said "oh, where can I find this?" And she saw that I browsed in Book of Mormon. Then she said, "Okay, I suppose I'll read a little in this Book to Mormon :)". She took the Book of Mormon and promised that she would read the chapter that same evening. I was all so happy!

We also had eleven other lessons that all was interesting in their own way. Some we really needed to go into the doctrine so that they would follow us. Others we needed to teach as simple as possible, due to language, culture or both.

A lesson with Gabbi, from India was somewhat disappointing. He comes every Sunday to church, read the Book of Mormon, prays and do everything we challenge him to do. But in this lesson we learned that he understands little of what we teach. He has a great desire to follow Christ and to do well, but his English is not enough good not to understand what he needs .... An entire lesson teaching him what a prophet is. Afterwards we asked him if he could explain what a prophet is in his own words, and he answered something entirely differently. We have to figure out another way to teach him. :)

An Egyptian, Imed, we taught several times this week was very interested in that we have a prophet today, and is also eager to reading the Book of Mormon. He came to church on Sunday as well. He has a Christian background, so he easily understands what we teach, and he understands quickly when there is something that only our church has to offer. On Saturday we showed him the church and talked a lot with him. We watched a video of President Thomas S. Monson translated into Arabic. Before he left he told us that he has a problem with smoking, and that he wants to quit, and that he thinks he can do it! The funny thing is that we never mentioned anything about the word of wisdom at all. No doubt that this guy is prepared!

It is wonderful to see that it is not only we who are getting ready for Christmas here. Christmas lights everywhere and people decorate their homes and houses. We play some Sufjan Stevens music. He always invites Christmas mood in seconds.

Have a great week you guys! Put up the decorations  and get into the Christmas spirit!

(Cypriot, haha do not think google translate will decode that)

Okay, so now we have put up the Christmas tree and we have Christmas decorations everywhere in our flat. I did received a package from home this week, with some Christmas music, a new camera since I managed to lose the one I had, so now there will be more pictures going forward. In the package mom and dad also attached a small piece of Norway! (freia Milk Chocolate)  It was really good to eat a small piece of Norway.

We teach some people that do not have any Christian background. It is a very different experience, since we normally teach mostly people with the Greek Orthodox Church background. I asked one of them during one of the lessons we had this week. Do you know what a prophet is? He thought for a while and then he replied, "Yes, When You invest money in something and you get more back, that is a profit." hahha, I had to gather all my strength not to burst out with laughter. They really do absolutely have no Christian background, so everything we say is the first time they hear it. But they are like sponges, taking in all they can. It's pretty amazing.

Last week Παναγιώτης and Γεωργία invited us to bowl in the end of our P day, so it was of course not something that we could not miss. We really had a good time with them. They are really taking care of us missionaries.

We had special training with President Heder, his assistants and the zone leaders this week. All missionaries on the Cyprus island came together. It's always fun to meet the others from all over Cyprus. We had incredible meetings. It's impossible not to feel the spirit when President and Sister Heder talks. It is always top quality.

(the good thing about serving with a guy from Italy is that he knows his pizza baking :)

Finally we had a lesson with a Maria this week. We have tried long to get hold of her. Elder and Sister Cranney was also present in the discussion that really made that lesson very good. She have two children; Princess 9 years and Candle 6 year. Princess understood everything we talked about. She is so incredibly sharp. I hope we can continue to teach them going forward. It was actually Sister Rapp from Norway who started to teach her, but she has not have any contact with the missionaries for over a year now. So we hope that now is the time for progress.

This is a little short blog this time, but more will come next week.

Have a good week to you all.

Do you know what a prophet is? Han tenkte litt og svarte: "Yes, when you invest money in something and you get more back, that is a profit." hahha, jeg mtte samle sammen alle kreftene mine for ikke sprekke av latter.

    Shazam!
Things starts to happen here! Wohoo! Investigators have been found! Baptism challenges have been accepted! People are really prepared.

Wow, me and Elder Menis are now entering our four week together! Πο πο! Feels no more than a week.

(on P day this week. I lost my camera, so good that we have good members like Panayiotis that did send pictures to my dad)

Last week we talked with a couple on the street. Malin from Sweden and Michael. Both speak Swedish. We called them and set up an appointment with them. She could unfortunately not come, but what a wonderful lesson we had with him! He had so many good questions. He promised to read the Book of Mormon and ask in prayer if it is true. The next time we met, he was convinced that these are scriptures and that it contains God's true word. Absolutely tremendous to see how someone is so prepared. I cannot wait to see the blessings that are in store for them.

Gabbi, one of those who came to the institute last week brought a friend to a lesson with us. Yes! None of them speak some particularly good English, but we try to explain everything as simple as possible, with lots of pictures and little Hindi. We met with them for the second time this week and invited them to be baptism and explained everything around it what it meant and so on. They were so happy when they understood what it was all about and that there was something that they could do. We just have to work a little slow with them so that we know that they understand everything. After one of the lessons, Elder Menis was so happy when they walked out of the room, he could not sit still anymore. He jumped up and kept on squeezing so tight that I could not breath. Hahha. It's a feeling you cannot put into words, but Elder Menis can almost express how he feels, I love it. He's like a big kid.

Haha the first time I called Gabbi to set up an appointment later that evening he answered me on the phone: "Yes, yes, brother. I will be there in 10 minutes., Okay? Bye bye!" I jumped up from my chair and shouted to Elder Menis: We have a lesson in the church in about 10 minutes! He stopped chewing his mouthfuls of pasta he just put in is mouth, and just looked at me with big eyes. When he realized that I was not joking, he bounced up and we ran down to the bikes and rode over to the church faster than the Flash.

We taught girl from Bergen in Norway this week. She still refuses to see that Christ is the Messiah, but I challenged her to pray and to write a personal revelation book. Where she writes down everything she feels and all answers that she gets in the book, and try to find out how important it is to act on the answers that we get. So we've kind of left her to the Holy Spirit, so that he can teach her. She also said that she met some Norwegians in the area and she will visit them and perhaps invite me over with them. So for this reason we have not dropped her just yet.

We also had the opportunity to give blessings to someone this week. A member who is struggling physically, and also one of our investigators that is struggling, but unfortunately we can?t help with everything. We are here to invite everyone to come closer to Christ. We can unfortunately not help people with financial problems. But it is interesting to see how it miraculously works out when you have the right focus and prioritize the most important things first.

It's still hot in the daytime. We wear t-shirt on the day, but in the evening the air is getting cooler, so we put on our jumpers. That is strange. I really start to freeze when we go below 15 degrees. That is a lovely summer back home. Wonder how January will be when we approach zero degrees. Or how it will be next year when I?m back in Norway! Hope I will adjust to the different temperatures.

This week's quote! (I have plenty to choose from, I wrote down a lot before I left knowing that it was the last time in two years without any movies or music.)

    -------------

    Shazam!

Ting begynner skje her! wohoo! Underskere her blitt funnet! Dpsinvitasjoner har blitt godtatt! Folk er forberedt.

Wow, meg og Menis gr n inn i vr 4 uke sammen! Πο πο!

I will be there in 10 minutes., okey? Bye bye!"

Then we have survived two weeks here in Larnaca! We are starting to get the hang of it. And now we have some real food in our kitchen and start to get in order. Larnaca is a smashing place!

It seems that our entire area "East Cyprus" is in a beginning phase of the work. I'm just waiting for something to explode exponentially, and I have the faith that this will happen. Although we have not so many lessons so far, we have a lot of potential who want to learn more. We even have some appointments that I really have high hopes for.

After a "missionary correlation meeting" on Wednesday Elder and Sister Gorton came for teaching the institute. I talked with them for a while, since I have served with them when I was in Limassol. They said they need more institute participants, but the missionaries only were allowed to participate if they have an investigator attending. I told them "okay, class starts in 20 minutes, we're going out to find people who will attend. We stopped a guy on the street who seemed interested, he said he would go home first and if he got there in time he will bring a friend and come.
While we waited for this Hamed and his friend to come, we continued to stop people. Another person Raol was interested in hearing more about the Book of Mormon. He joined in and the class started. After two minutes we went out to find a Book of Mormon to give him. At the same time we went out to see if Hamed had arrived. But he was not there, so we stopped a young girl about 18-year-old from Cyprus. She did not have time this evening, but agreed to come next week, so we got her phone number.
So here it is certainly something to work on going forward J!

On Sundays we go all four elders in Larnaca down to the waterfront and have either a whiteboard or a large Jesus Christ poster and are talking with everyone. In addition Panayiotis and Georgia are joining us most of the time. Fantastic. Panayiotis is like a big kid, and we have always fun around him, loves to harass people and make people laugh. It's good to be around people like them.

We've had some lessons with Synne, from Norway. But it does not seem to get anywhere. She fails to see how the Old and New Testament is entirely consistent. In addition she will not even try to read the Book of Mormon. They are quite stubborn these Norwegians. If nothing changes we have to move on.

On Thursday we had the MLC missionary leadership council-which also goes by the name Jedi Council. One of the things that we discussed was Christmas! December is tonly one month away! woohoo! Since the apartment that we now live in was previously used by the sister missionaries, we found an entire cabinet with Christmas ornaments, Christmas tree and everything! I had to restrain myself to not set up everything right away. Not sure how long I can keep myself for putting everything up J ..

Hope everyone had a good Halloween, and that November will be a smashing month for you all! Toddeloo

    --------------

Da har vi overlevd to uker her i Larnaka! Vi begynner komme mer inn i det. Ftt litt skikkelig mat inn i hyllene og slikt. Larnaka e digg!
